The Upper Tauern National Park is the largest National Park in Austria. 300 peaks over 3,000 m, 342 Glaciers, 279 streams, 28 significant waterfalls (as well as numerous small ones), and 551 mountain lakes make this a fascinating, beautiful and unique natural landscape. You can find extensive information and exciting exhibitions at the National Park Centre in Matrei.
Water Adventure Exhibition Galitzenklamm
Experience the force of water! A wooden platform directly against the rock face brings you extremely close to the thundering, foaming water in the Galitzen gorge. Right up close to the rock face you get an impressive view of the Lienz Dolomite massif.
Lavant
Lavant, east of Lienz situated in the Drava valley, is famous for its numerous archaeological finds on the so-called "Kirchbichl". The Kirchbichl in Lavant is today a popular pilgrimage site. A collection of antiques and the churches of St. Ulrich and St Peter and Paul are especially worth a visit.
Anras Castle
Castle Anras on the Pustertal high road is one of the most culture rich and important historical buildings in East Tyrol. Once the summer residence of the Bishop of Brixen it is today a museum with alternating exhibitions.
